CHANDIGARH, APRIL 18: On the occasion of the World Heritage Day the Chandigarh Chapter of INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art & Cultural Heritage) in collaboration with the Sangeet Natak Akademi of Chandigarh organised an evening of traditional and folk music at the Tagore Theatre here today .
The intangible heritage of the region in the form of art and music is being conserved by INTACH Chandigarh along with the tangible heritage (monuments and buildings). Today’s programme was organised with the objective of creating awareness about our intangible heritage.
Mr. KK Sharma Adviser to the Administrator Chandigarh UT was the Chief Guest on the occasion. A number of judges, eminent persons, senior government officers and artists attended the event. Mr. VK Kapoor Convenor INTACH Chandigarh and Mr. Kamal Tewari Chairman CSA spoke on the occasion.
Rinku Kalia was the star performer of the evening with a superb rendition of well known fork songs in Punjabi and all time favourite ghazals.
Haryana IAS officer Sh Roshan Lal also sang on the occasion along with Dr. Rani Balbir Kaur and several young singers.
The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) is India’s largest non-profit membership organization dedicated to conservation and preservation of India’s natural, cultural, living, tangible and intangible heritage. Its mission is to:
Sensitize the public about the pluralistic cultural legacy of India;
n Instill a sense of social responsibility towards preserving our common heritage;
Protect and conserve our living, built, and natural heritage by undertaking necessary actions and measures;
Document unprotected buildings of archaeological, architectural, historical and aesthetic significance; and cultural resources, as this is the first step towards formulating conservation plans;
Develop heritage policy and regulations, and make legal interventions to protect our heritage when necessary;
Provide expertise in the field of conservation, restoration and preservation of specific works of art; and encourage capacity building by developing skills through training programs;
Undertake emergency response measures during natural or man-made disasters, and support local administration whenever heritage is threatened;
Foster collaborations, Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and partnerships with government and other national and international agencies; and
