Chandigarh October 23 : Central Placement Cell, Panjab University organises a session for Training & Placement officers & Students Placement Coordinators
Panjab University (PU) Central Placement Cell(CPC) organised a session for Training & Placement Officers and Student Placement Coordinators of various departments of PU.
More than 50 Training & Placement Officers and Student Placement Coordinators attended the session. Associate Regional Head HDFC Life, Mr. Deepak Rana was invited as the chief guest to interact with the Training & Placement Officers and Student Placement Coordinators.
Earlier, CPC Honorary Director, Prof. Meena Sharma opened the session by addressing the audience about the need of having a centralised working mechanism for placement related activities in the university. She apprised the audience about various activities being undertaken by the Cell like webinars, workshops, Expert Talks, placement drives, which focus on overall development and welfare of the PU students. She also highlighted the need for stronger industry academia interaction as it will help in overall development of the students and uplifting the institutional ranking of the University. She encouraged the TPOs to undertake various placement activities in collaboration with the Placement Cell.
Mr Deepak Rana addressed the audience by highlighting upon the myths about the non-availability of adequate job opportunities in the corporate sector. He talked about the important responsibility of the student coordinator during the entire process of the placements. He detailed about the complete placement process to be followed for effective placements of the students. He advised the student coordinators to undergo decentralisation of activities at the departmental level by making different teams led by students. He also talked about establishing relationship with corporates and how to connect with the alumni through different sources like Linkedin and alumni database. Lastly, he addressed the essentiality of providing training to students to enable them to acquire the needed skill set for the jobs as there is a wide gap in the skills required by recruiters and actual skills possessed by the students.
The session ended with vote of thanks by Professor Ganga Ram Chaudhary, Associate Director, Central Placement Cell and Director, Seminar Hall of Sophisticated Analytical Instrumentation Facility, CIL and UCIM.
