Chandigarh, September 24, 2024 — Under the dynamic leadership of Principal Prof. Binu Dogra, the NSS unit of PGGCG-42 launched the Swachhata Hi Seva Programme today, running from September 17 to October 2, 2024. The initiative, themed “Planet vs. Plastic,” aims to promote cleanliness and environmental sustainability.
The event was graced by Honorable Chief Guest Smt. Meeta Rajivlochan, IAS, Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. Other esteemed guests included Sh. Paramjit Singh, State Director of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan; Sh. Jai Bhagwan, Regional Director of the Regional Directorate Office, UT Chandigarh; Dr. Nemi Chand Golia, SLO of the State NSS Cell, UT Chandigarh; and Dr. Parveen Goyal, NSS Programme Coordinator at Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Principal Prof. Binu Dogra warmly welcomed the guests, highlighting the importance of the Swachhata initiative. In her address, Smt. Rajivlochan emphasized the ongoing Swachhata Drive, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and urged the youth to register on the merayuvabharat.gov.in portal to enhance youth empowerment.
As part of the celebration, saplings were planted by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries, reinforcing the event’s commitment to environmental conservation. The NSS volunteers also showcased their talents through a vibrant cultural program.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from NSS Incharge Shri Mehar Chand. With over 600 enthusiastic volunteers in attendance, the Swachhata Hi Seva Programme proved to be a resounding success, inspiring participants to take proactive steps toward a cleaner planet.
