During his visit to Mauritius on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered prayers at the revered Ganga Talao, the most sacred Hindu pilgrimage site in the Indian Ocean archipelago. As part of the ritual, he also immersed holy water brought from the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, collected during the Maha Kumbh Mela.
The people of Mauritius welcomed the gesture with gratitude. Jessica Seesunkar, Secretary of Sanatan Rakshak Voice of Hindu executive, expressed appreciation, stating, “We are deeply grateful to Prime Minister Modi for visiting our country. He has always supported us, and the bond between India and Mauritius is like that of a family. As long as Modi ji is there, we feel protected.”
Acknowledging the significance of the occasion, a local resident shared, “Many of us wished to attend the Maha Kumbh Mela but couldn’t. PM Modi bringing Gangajal from Prayagraj to Mauritius is a great blessing for us. No words can express our gratitude.”
Satish Dayal, chief trustee and in-charge of the Ganga Talao temple, highlighted the importance of PM Modi’s visit, noting that he has brought Gangajal on multiple occasions. “Ganga Talao is a sacred pilgrimage site, and the immersion of Maha Kumbh’s holy water makes it even more special. This gesture allows devotees who could not travel to Prayagraj to receive its blessings here.”
Another local expressed admiration for PM Modi, stating, “This is his second visit to Mauritius, and his act of immersing Maha Kumbh’s water in Ganga Talao has further sanctified the site. He is a role model for us and has done a lot for Hindus and Hindutva.”
PM Modi’s visit further strengthened cultural ties between India and Mauritius, reinforcing the spiritual and historical connection shared by the two nations.
