Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) continues its crackdown on corruption, arresting Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Jagga Singh (No. 636/Bnl) and Senior Constable Gurpreet Singh (No. 288/Bnl) red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹50,000 in Barnala district. Both were posted at Mehal Kalan Police Station.
Bribe Demanded for Returning Seized Items
According to an official VB spokesperson, the arrests were made following a complaint from a woman in Barnala city. She informed VB that a police case was registered at Mehal Kalan Police Station, in which her brother was later arrested. She alleged that the ASI and Senior Constable demanded a bribe to return her brother’s mobile phone, watch, gold chain, and ₹10,000 in cash.
Caught Red-Handed in VB Trap
After verifying the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau team set up a trap and caught both accused officers while accepting ₹50,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case has been registered at VB Police Station, Patiala Range, and further investigations are underway.
