Chandigarh : University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University adjudged winners of 7th Surana & Surana and RGNUL International Law Moot Court Competition 2024-25 The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab in collaboration with the Surana & Surana International Attorneys, Chennai successfully organised the 7th Surana & Surana and RGNUL International Law Moot Court Competition on 28-29 March, 2025.
Two day Moot Court Competition witnessed participation from 28 teams from reputed Universities like NALSAR, Hyderabad, NUJS, Kolkata, NLU, Jodhpur, UILS, Chandigarh and Faculty of Law, University of Delhi amongst several others across the country. Semi-final rounds scheduled on 28 March, 2025 witnessed participation from Faculty of Law, Delhi University, Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur, University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University and National Law University, Jodhpur which were presided by distinguished advocates practising in Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh including Advocate Manvir Singh Tiwana, Advocate Paramvir Singh and experienced academicians Dr. Gurmanpreet Kaur and Dr. Jaspreet Kaur Majithia. The final rounds included teams from Faculty of Law, Delhi University and University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University wherein University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University were adjudged as winners.
The award for the Best Speaker for the preliminary rounds was presented to S R Aaditya from National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata, the Best speaker in the final rounds was awarded to Vanya Monga from University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University and the award for the Best Memorial was presented to the National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi. The competition was a collaborative effort which witnessed participation of the entire student community at RGNUL, Punjab. On 29 March, 2025, the Final Rounds were presided over by the Chief Guest of the day Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ajit Kumar, Judge, Allahabad High Court, Prof. (Dr.) A. David Ambrose, Former Professor, University of Madras and Prof. (Dr.) Satish Chandra, Visiting Professor at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab. Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ajit Kumar, Judge, Allahabad High Court observed that, “The confidence shown by the teams resembled the true mark of a lawyer in making.” He further added that “Earth is a family and everyone must have a concern for this family.”
Prof. (Dr.) A. David Ambrose, motivated the teams with his golden words, and encouraged the students to pursue a career in International Law. Prof. (Dr.) Satish Chandra reflected on his personal journey as a law student, underscoring the value of early exposure to mooting. Mr. Pritam Surana, Partner, Dispute Resolution & Head, Academic Initiatives at Surana & Surana, International Attorneys, Chennai declared the results. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Jai S. Singh welcomed the moot court competition judges at the valedictory ceremony.
Further, he inspired and motivated the young legal professionals to demonstrate their advocacy skills and legal acumen with his words of wisdom “That we are all winners in the game”. Prof. (Dr.) Naresh Vats, Dean Academics, RGNUL, Punjab presented a vote of thanks underscoring his appreciation for the sponsor of the Competition, Surana & Surana International Attorneys, Chennai for their generous support which played a crucial role in ensuring the success of this Competition. Members of the Moot Court Committee led by Faculty Coordinator Dr. Jaswinder Kaur also appreciated the students members of the committee for their hard work and dedication in making this event an overall success.
