Dehradun, March 26, 2025 – In a major step towards modernizing the pilgrimage experience, the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) has launched Aadhaar Authentication and eKYC for the Char Dham and Hemkund Sahib Yatra. The initiative, announced by the Ministry of Electronics & IT, aims to make the registration process faster, more secure, and hassle-free for pilgrims.
Faster Registration & Improved Monitoring
The integration of Aadhaar-based online registration will help:
✔ Reduce registration time for pilgrims.
✔ Monitor pilgrim movements efficiently to prevent overcrowding.
✔ Improve weather-related updates, particularly in high-altitude areas prone to unpredictable conditions.
Rapid Adoption of Digital Registration
Registration for the Char Dham and Hemkund Sahib Yatra 2025 began on March 20, and over 750,000 pilgrims have already used the Aadhaar-based online registration facility. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is supporting this digital transformation in coordination with state authorities.
Pilgrims can register online via the official portal (registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in) or the “Tourist Care Uttarakhand” mobile app, which offers Aadhaar-linked eKYC services. Offline registration remains available at designated centers.
Balancing Tradition with Technology
The move will eliminate duplicate registrations, ensuring more pilgrims can undertake the Yatra without administrative delays. Aadhaar-based verification streamlines the process, reduces paperwork, and enhances overall efficiency.
Additionally, linking pilgrim data to Aadhaar will help authorities in better planning accommodations, transport, food, and medical services, preventing resource wastage and improving emergency response coordination.
With this digital initiative, Uttarakhand takes a major step in enhancing pilgrimage management, offering devotees a seamless and secure Yatra experience.
