A Symbol of Faith and Devotion: Hemkund Sahib Yatra Begins
Chamoli, Uttarakhand – In a deeply spiritual and ceremonious moment, the sacred doors (kapaat) of Shri Hemkund Sahib Ji, one of Sikhism’s holiest pilgrimage sites, were opened this morning, formally marking the beginning of the annual Hemkund Sahib Yatra. Thousands of devotees are expected to undertake this high-altitude pilgrimage in the coming weeks.
The opening of the shrine was carried out with traditional rituals and religious fervor. On Saturday, the first batch of pilgrims, led by the revered Panch Pyare, departed from Govindghat Gurudwara under heavy police security. The group advanced to the sound of traditional band-baja and carried the sacred Nishan Sahib, symbolizing Sikh pride and spirituality. The pilgrims halted overnight at Ghangaria Gurudwara, resuming their journey early this morning.
Amid resounding chants of devotion, the gates of Shri Hemkund Sahib were opened during the auspicious morning hours, allowing devotees to offer prayers and seek blessings. Alongside, the doors of Lokpal Mandir (Lakshman Mandir)—a significant site for Hindu devotees—were also opened with complete religious observance, underscoring the shared sanctity of the region.
To ensure a smooth and secure pilgrimage, Chamoli district police, along with State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams, have been deployed at key points along the Yatra route. The district administration has taken robust steps to manage the expected influx of pilgrims, ensuring safety and convenience for all.
Welcoming the devotees and tourists, Chamoli Police reiterated their commitment to facilitating a successful and spiritually fulfilling journey.
On this significant occasion, Sardar Narendrajit Singh Bindra, President of the Hemkund Sahib Management Trust, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the administration and security personnel for their continued support and coordination in managing the pilgrimage arrangements.
