CHANDIGARH, March 25, 2025—The much-anticipated show by legendary Punjabi singer Gurdas Maan at Panjab University was abruptly cancelled, sparking student protests at the event site.
The Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW) of Panjab University Prof Amit Chauhan released an official statement clarifying the situation. According to the statement, the university remains committed to supporting and encouraging student-organized festivals and cultural events. Accordingly, permission for the event was initially granted, subject to the necessary approvals from the Chandigarh Administration.
However, the event could not take place as the students organizing it failed to secure the requisite permissions from the local authorities. Despite this setback, the university allowed students to set up the stage at their own risk.
The cancellation has led to agitation among students, with a group protesting at the venue, expressing their disappointment over the last-minute change. The university administration has urged students to maintain peace and assured them of its continued support for cultural activities in compliance with administrative regulations.
Further developments are expected as discussions between students and the university authorities continue regarding future event planning and coordination with the local administration.
