Chandigarh : An insightful interactive session on the theme “Role of Youth in Nation Building” was held today at the Law Auditorium of Panjab University, Chandigarh. The esteemed Keynote Speaker for the occasion was His Eminence Choekyong Palga Rinpoche, the eighth incarnation in the Drukpa lineage, popularly known as the “Monk who sold his Maserati.”
In his engaging address, Rinpoche shared invaluable wisdom with the students, urging them to live lives of discipline and mindfulness to combat common struggles such as depression, anxiety, and overthinking. He emphasized that strong, responsible individuals are the backbone of a prosperous nation. Over the course of an hour-long interaction, Rinpoche provided several practical tips on managing anger, developing detachment, and incorporating meditation into daily life.
The event was organized by the Dean Students Welfare in collaboration with Ladakh Phanday Tsogspa and the Jammu Kashmir Study Centre, two NGOs dedicated to addressing the concerns and challenges faced by Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir.
Prof Shivani Sharma, who introduced the dignitaries, welcomed the audience to the event. Prof Simrit Kahlon spoke on the important work carried out by the two collaborating NGOs in Ladakh.
The Presidential Address was delivered by Vice Chancellor Prof Renu Vig, who commended the event for fostering a value-driven approach beyond academics. Drawing from historical examples, Prof Vig highlighted the enduring significance of Buddha’s teachings in the development of the Indian nation and encouraged students to heed the wisdom shared by Rinpoche.
The session was attended by university students, representatives from affiliated colleges, and several families from Ladakh. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Advocate Gehna Vaishnavi, acknowledging the inspiring session and the contributions of the dignitaries.
