Chandigarh : For the first time in Chandigarh, SPIC MACAY organized a mesmerizing two-hour performance of Kerala’s ancient martial art, Kalaripayattu, at Tagore Theatre, in collaboration with the Tagore Theatre Society and the Department of Culture.
Chandigarh witnessed an extensive demonstration of Kalaripayattu, thanks to the efforts of SPIC MACAY, with support from the Culture Department of UT Chandigarh, the Tagore Theatre Society, and the Kerala community. The performance, presented by the Vallabhatt Kalari Group, featured key elements of Kalaripayattu, including Maithari, Kolthari, Ankathari, and Verumkai Prayogam.
One of the most captivating moments that received a thunderous applause was the breathtaking aerial defense technique showcased during the performance.
Under the direction of Vallabhatt Kalari Group leader Rajeev K.P., performers Ajit Shankar, Gokul, Vinayak, Anand K.P., Gokul Krishnan, Advaith, Bhaskaran, and Seemalan energetically presented all four forms of Kalaripayattu.
It is worth noting that while Kalaripayattu is a martial art, its graceful movements make it appear as captivating as a dance. It not only teaches physical fitness but also enhances mental focus, helping today’s youth in achieving their academic and career goals with greater concentration.
