Chandigarh, October 13: Haryana Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini today released the book “Tilak Janeu Ka Rakha” at a special ceremony held at Tagore Theatre, Chandigarh. The book, authored by S. Iqbal Singh Lalpura, is a moving tribute to the life and martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the ninth Sikh Guru.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister was also conferred the Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award, instituted by the Global Punjabi Association, in recognition of his leadership, dedication to social harmony, and contributions to the Sikh community.
Delivering a detailed review of the book, Colonel Jaibans Singh described it as an inspiring narrative that captures the fearless sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji in the face of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tyranny.
In his address, Chief Minister Saini emphasized the Guru’s stand for human rights and religious freedom, stating, “Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji chose martyrdom over surrender, and his unwavering commitment to dharma and justice continues to inspire generations.”
The Chief Minister also highlighted key initiatives undertaken by the Haryana Government to preserve and honour Sikh heritage:
- A medical college in Haryana is being named after ‘Hind Ki Chadar’ Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji
- A college in Assandh will be named after Baba Fateh Singh Ji, the youngest son of Guru Gobind Singh Ji
- An active Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee is being constituted in Haryana to oversee the preservation and functioning of Sikh religious sites
The event was graced by several distinguished personalities, including Goswami Sushil Maharaj, Maharani Uma Singh of Nabha, Sardar Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal (President, Global Punjabi Association), along with other office bearers and members of the association.
Also in attendance were literary figures, retired senior bureaucrats, and members of the Punjabi diaspora, who collectively appreciated the cultural and historical significance of the book and the occasion.
