Chandigarh Flooding: PGIMER Responds Swiftly to Heavy Rain and Drain Backflow

CChandigarh faced severe rainfall today, resulting in back-flow from rainwater and stormwater drains that flooded low-lying areas surrounding Nehru Hospital. The flooding caused significant issues for patients, particularly at the dental block and main reception, which were inundated with water.

In response, the hospital administration, along with sanitation and engineering teams, swiftly took action to remove the water and mitigate damage. While patient care services remained largely unaffected, some high-tech equipment in the Departments of Radiotherapy and Radiodiagnosis was temporarily shut down as a precautionary measure.

Acting Director Prof. R.K. Ratho and Medical Superintendent Prof. Vipin Koushal conducted a thorough inspection of Nehru Hospital and its surrounding areas to ensure the continuity of patient services. The Engineering Department of PGIMER has announced plans to investigate the underlying causes of the rainwater logging and stormwater issues to prevent future occurrences.
