Google CEO Sundar Pichai has emphasized the “incredible opportunities” that artificial intelligence (AI) will bring to India following his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the AI Action Summit in Paris.
Pichai also pointed out the potential for collaboration between Google and India to accelerate the country’s digital transformation. Taking to social media platform X, he shared,
“Delighted to meet with PM Narendra Modi today while in Paris for the AI Action Summit. We discussed the incredible opportunities AI will bring to India and ways we can work closely together on India’s digital transformation.”
India-France Strengthening Ties in AI & Innovation
On Tuesday, PM Modi addressed the India-France CEOs Forum in Paris, highlighting its role in strengthening economic ties and fostering innovation. He stated that business leaders from both nations are working together to unlock new opportunities across key sectors, which will drive investment and growth for future generations.
“This is more than just a business event—it’s a convergence of the brightest minds from India and France. You are embracing the mantra of innovation, collaboration, and elevation, driving progress with purpose,” Modi said.
He further emphasized that the India-France relationship is built on deep trust, common values, and a commitment to global solutions.
PM Modi also co-chaired the AI Action Summit with French President Emmanuel Macron, where world leaders, policymakers, and industry experts gathered to discuss AI’s role in shaping the future.
India’s Leadership in AI Adoption & Digital Innovation
During the summit, PM Modi reaffirmed India’s leadership in AI adoption, stating that the country has the largest AI talent pool and is advancing in techno-legal solutions for data privacy.
“India has successfully built a digital public infrastructure for over 1.4 billion people at a very low cost. It is built around an open and accessible network, with regulations and a wide range of applications to modernize our economy, reform governance, and transform lives,” he said.
He further added that India is developing its own large language model to accommodate its linguistic diversity and has a unique public-private partnership model to provide computing resources to startups and researchers at an affordable cost.
Sustainability and the Future of AI
PM Modi emphasized the importance of sustainable AI, noting that efficiency in data usage, model size, and energy consumption should be prioritized.
“AI must be sustainable—not just in terms of clean energy, but also in terms of data needs and resource requirements. After all, the human brain composes poetry and designs spaceships using less power than most light bulbs,” he remarked.
AI for Good: India’s Commitment to Responsible AI Development
The Prime Minister assured that India is ready to share its expertise and experience to ensure that AI benefits everyone globally.
“Some people worry about machines becoming superior to human intelligence. But no one holds the key to our collective future other than us humans. That sense of responsibility must guide us,” Modi stated.
India and France: A Growing Strategic Partnership
Highlighting the longstanding India-France partnership, PM Modi recalled the countries’ collaboration on initiatives like the International Solar Alliance and emphasized their commitment to using AI for a smarter, more responsible future.
As India strengthens its role as a global leader in AI innovation and ethical technology development, its collaboration with France, Google, and other international partners is set to drive the next phase of technological transformation and economic growth.
