NEW DELHI — In the run-up to the 8th Janaushadhi Diwas on March 7, the Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI) organized extensive health check-up camps across various states and union territories today, marking the fourth day of Janaushadhi Saptah 2026.
Remarkably, even as the country celebrated the festival of Holi, the health camps witnessed enthusiastic participation from citizens seeking accessible healthcare services. The nationwide outreach initiative runs from March 1st to March 5th.
Comprehensive On-Site Care As part of the week-long celebration, approximately 250 locations across the country hosted free health camps. Patients were provided with a wide array of essential services, including:
-
Free medical consultations and pediatric care.
-
On-site diagnostic testing for blood pressure, blood sugar, and thyroid levels.
-
Consultations and management plans for chronic illnesses.
-
Free distribution of Janaushadhi generic medicines and Suvidha sanitary pads.
Camps on Day 4 were successfully held in diverse locations, including Doddaballapur, Bengaluru Urban, and Haveri (Karnataka); Mohol in Solapur (Maharashtra); the downtown Nowhatta area of Srinagar (Jammu & Kashmir); and Palnadu (Andhra Pradesh). Alongside the medical services, officials conducted awareness sessions highlighting the safety and cost-benefits of quality generic medicines.
Expanding the PMBJP Footprint Under the flagship Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), quality generic medicines are currently made available to the public at significantly lower prices through more than 18,000 operational Kendras (PMBJKs) nationwide.
“The Government has set an ambitious target of establishing 25,000 Kendras by March 2027 to ensure that no citizen is deprived of essential medicines due to financial constraints.”
Opportunities for Entrepreneurs The PMBI is actively encouraging entrepreneurs, pharmacists, doctors, and eligible individuals to participate in the nation’s healthcare mission. Interested parties can apply online to open a Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendra via the official website (www.janaushadhi.gov.in). The scheme offers substantial financial assistance and incentives to ensure a sustainable livelihood while expanding healthcare access.
