CHANDIGARH: Renowned Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Dr. Vidya Rattan, has officially taken over as the new Head of the Oral Health Sciences Centre (OHSC) at the prestigious Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. He succeeds Prof. Satinder Pal Singh following his superannuation.
Dr. Rattan brings decades of clinical expertise, landmark medical innovations, and an outstanding academic record to his new leadership role.
A Distinguished Career in Maxillofacial Surgery
Throughout his distinguished career at PGIMER, Dr. Vidya Rattan has been recognized for his pioneering work in complex Temporomandibular joint surgery, the correction of facial and jaw deformities, and the management of orofacial trauma. He is also credited with developing a surgical technique to eliminate the recurrence of Temporomandibular Joint Ankylosis.
Dr. Rattan is an influential figure in the academic medical community. He currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Oral Biology and Craniofacial Research and has authored over 170 research papers and book chapters. Additionally, he has previously served as the Chairman of the Indian Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is the current President of the Chandigarh Chapter of the Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India.
Within PGIMER, he has actively served on vital administrative committees, notably managing the affairs of the Biomedical Innovation Hub as its Chairman.
Vision for the Oral Health Sciences Centre
On assuming office, Dr. Vidya Rattan expressed his steadfast commitment to steering the OHSC toward providing accessible patient care and the best possible treatments.
He emphasized aligning the department’s goals to establish it as the best center in the country for patient care, advanced dental education, cutting-edge research, and community services.
