CHANDIGARH: The Department of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery, in close collaboration with the Department of Anatomy at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), successfully concluded a comprehensive three-day Surgical Skills Workshop spanning from October 16 to 18.
The high-level program was designed to provide advanced surgical training, vital hands-on experience, and deep academic exposure to ENT surgeons, postgraduate residents, and medical professionals specializing in head and neck surgery, robotic procedures, and temporal bone dissection.
Leadership and Major Programs
Organized under the leadership of Organising Chairperson Prof. Jaimanti Bakshi, Head of the Department of Otolaryngology & Head and Neck Surgery, the massive academic event was supported by Co-Organising Chairpersons Dr. Satyawati Mohindra and Dr. Anjali Aggarwal. Furthermore, Prof. Rijuneeta Gupta and Prof. Anurag S. Ramavat served as course coordinators for the Cadaveric Head and Neck course, with Dr. Sourabha K. Patro acting as the Organising Secretary.
The intensive three-day event was structured around three major foundational programs:
-
CME and Live Surgery on Robotic Head & Neck Surgery 2026
-
17th Cadaveric Head & Neck Dissection Course
-
21st Temporal Bone Dissection Workshop
A Comprehensive Day-by-Day Agenda
The workshop aimed to give young surgeons and postgraduate trainees crucial exposure to contemporary surgical practices while fortifying their fundamental anatomical knowledge and operative skills.
-
Day 1: Advances in Robotic Surgery The opening day centered heavily on cutting-edge robotic head and neck surgery. A major highlight for the delegates was the live telecast of a robotic head and neck surgery. This was complemented by expert academic sessions and lectures focusing on surgical anatomy, robotic neck surgery, minimally invasive procedures, and free-flap reconstructive techniques.
-
Day 2: Cadaveric Head and Neck Dissection The second day transitioned into live demonstrations and highly supervised hands-on cadaveric training. Delegates gained critical practical experience in complex head and neck procedures, including neck dissections, laryngectomies, thyroidectomies, parotidectomies, and advanced flap reconstructions under the direct supervision of experienced faculty.
-
Day 3: Temporal Bone Dissection The final day focused entirely on temporal bone anatomy and surgical dissection. Following specialized demonstrations, registered delegates underwent supervised hands-on training to significantly enhance their surgical precision and practical skills in various otological procedures.
The event successfully concluded with a valedictory function featuring certificate distribution and special awards. By seamlessly integrating live robotic surgery with expert academic lectures and hands-on cadaveric dissection, PGIMER continues to reinforce its steadfast commitment to excellence in surgical education, clinical innovation, and high-quality patient care in India.
