CHANDIGARH: Emphasizing that the safety and well-being of children must remain the top priority, the Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) has issued a fresh advisory regarding the organization of summer camps amidst the prevailing severe heat wave conditions in the region.
This follows a previous CCPCR advisory that prompted the Chandigarh Administration’s Education Department to order the early commencement of summer vacations for all Government, Private, and Aided Schools in the city, effective May 23, 2026.
Despite the vacation orders, it came to the Commission’s attention that several schools were planning to organize summer camps. Acknowledging the benefits of such camps, the CCPCR stated, “Though summer camps are good for enhancing the creativity and channelizing the energy of children, in view of the scorching temperatures, the Commission advises all schools to avoid conducting any outdoor activities, especially in the hot peak hours.”
Ms. Shipra Bansal, Chairperson of the CCPCR, reiterated the critical need for caution. “Children’s safety and health must remain the top priority during extreme weather conditions,” she stated. “Schools and institutions are expected to act responsibly and ensure that no child is exposed to harsh outdoor conditions during the ongoing heat wave. Preventive measures taken today can help avoid serious health risks to children.”
In addition to directing schools, the Commission has also issued an appeal to parents, urging them to keep their children safe, indoors, and well-hydrated during the peak heat period of the summer season.
