President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday extended her heartfelt greetings to the nation on the occasion of Guru Ravidas Jayanti, urging people to uphold his ideals of equality and social justice.
Guru Ravidas, a revered saint of the Bhakti movement in the 15th and 16th centuries, is known for his powerful message of unity, devotion, and service to humanity.
Taking to social media platform X, President Murmu wrote:
“On the auspicious occasion of Guru Ravidas Jayanti, I extend my best wishes to all countrymen. Saint Ravidas made service to humanity his goal. He remained dedicated to eradicating discrimination on the basis of religion and caste and bringing unity in society.”
She further encouraged people to adopt his teachings, stating:
“Let us embrace the ideals of Guru Ravidas Ji and continue working towards building a prosperous and developed nation.”
Leaders Pay Tribute to Guru Ravidas
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid homage, highlighting Guru Ravidas’s contribution to social unity and brotherhood.
“Tribute to the great social reformer and poet, Sant Shiromani Ravidas Ji on his birth anniversary. Through his poems and hymns in the Bhakti movement, he spread the message of unity and upliftment of the oppressed. His teachings remain exemplary for all,” Shah posted on X.
BJP National President J.P. Nadda echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing Guru Ravidas’s principles of karma and equality.
“I pay my heartfelt tributes to Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidas Ji, who considered karma as supreme and showed the path of equality for all. His teachings, promoting social harmony, remain a guiding light for unity, goodwill, and character building,” Nadda stated.
Public Holiday Declared in Multiple States
To mark the occasion, several states have declared a public holiday, allowing people to honor Guru Ravidas’s legacy.
- Punjab, Haryana, and Uttarakhand have announced state-wide holidays.
- In Delhi, a public holiday has been declared for government and public-sector employees.
- Government offices and schools in cities like Chandigarh, Mohali, Gurugram, and Faridabad will remain closed.
- Uttarakhand has announced a holiday for all state government institutions, excluding the secretariat and treasury. The state will also conduct cleanliness drives and decorate statues of Guru Ravidas to commemorate the day.
A notification issued by the Delhi government confirmed the holiday for government offices, autonomous bodies, and public sector undertakings, allowing residents of the capital to celebrate and honor the birth anniversary of the revered saint.
