New Delhi, May 27 – With daily Covid-19 cases in Delhi surpassing the 100-mark, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday reassured the public that the government is fully prepared to handle the situation. She confirmed that guidelines have been issued to all hospitals and the administration is maintaining close surveillance on the evolving health scenario.

“Guidelines have been issued to all hospitals, and the government is closely monitoring the situation,” CM Gupta said, urging people not to panic over the recent uptick in infections.

As of the latest figures from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Delhi currently has 104 active Covid-19 cases.

The Chief Minister emphasized that state-run hospitals are fully equipped to manage the current surge. “We have analysed the scenario, and there is no cause for panic,” she reiterated.

Delhi Government Issues Advisory to Ensure Covid Preparedness

Last week, the Delhi government issued a comprehensive Covid-19 advisory to all healthcare institutions. Hospitals have been instructed to ensure the availability of:

  • Beds, oxygen supplies, essential medicines, and vaccines
  • Functional ventilators, BiPAP machines, oxygen concentrators, and PSA oxygen plants

The advisory also mandates that all positive samples be sent to Lok Nayak Hospital for genome sequencing to track variants of concern.

Health Minister Pankaj Singh added that the administration is reviewing the case details to determine whether patients are residents of Delhi or have recent travel histories, to better understand the transmission patterns.

National Covid-19 Situation and New Variant Sub-lineages

The Union Health Ministry on Monday reported 1,009 Covid-19 cases nationwide, with Kerala (430) and Maharashtra (209) accounting for the highest numbers. Seven deaths were reported—four in Maharashtra, two in Kerala, and one in Karnataka.

According to the latest data from the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG), the current spike is being driven by NB.1.8.1 and LF.7, sub-lineages of the JN.1 Covid-19 variant.

INSACOG, a network of 64 labs under the Health Ministry, identified one NB.1.8.1 case in Tamil Nadu (April) and four LF.7 cases in Gujarat (May). Both are currently classified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as Variants Under Monitoring (VUM)—variants that require focused observation due to their potential public health impact.

Public Advised to Follow Covid Protocols

While the government has not reintroduced major restrictions, citizens are being urged to:

  • Wear masks in crowded or enclosed spaces
  • Maintain hand hygiene
  • Avoid unnecessary travel if unwell

With vigilant governance and public cooperation, authorities are confident that the situation will remain under control.
