THE HAGUE: In a significant milestone for India’s technological ambitions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Tata Electronics and Dutch multinational ASML. The agreement is squarely aimed at strengthening India’s domestic semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem.
Under this strategic partnership, ASML will provide critical support for the development, setup, and scaling of operations at Tata Electronics’ upcoming front-end semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat.
Sharing details of the development on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi noted that the partnership reflects the rapidly growing cooperation between India and the Netherlands in futuristic sectors.
“Strengthening cooperation in futuristic sectors! Prime Minister Rob Jetten and I witnessed the signing of the MoU between Tata and ASML for advancing the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in India,” the Prime Minister posted.
Highlighting the profound economic and developmental importance of the sector, PM Modi emphasized that India’s progress in semiconductor manufacturing is creating major avenues for the nation’s younger demographics. “India’s strides in the world of semiconductors offers immense opportunities for the youth of our nation. This is a sector in which we will keep adding vigour in the times to come,” he stated.
India has been aggressively pushing to fortify its domestic semiconductor manufacturing capabilities under its broader self-reliance and technology initiatives, with Gujarat emerging as a central hub for major electronics investments. The foundational Tata-ASML collaboration is expected to further enhance India’s long-term capabilities in semiconductor manufacturing, R&D infrastructure, and localized technology development.
