CHANDIGARH — In a significant step towards strengthening the city’s green infrastructure and creating child-friendly recreational spaces, Chandigarh Mayor Saurabh Joshi inaugurated a newly developed Children’s Park near House No. 601 in Sector 40-A on Friday.
The inauguration ceremony was heavily attended by local residents who welcomed the initiative with enthusiasm, alongside Area Councillor Gurbax Rawat and senior officers of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh (MCC).
Project Details and Amenities Developed by the MCC over an area of approximately 0.60 acres, the park was completed at an estimated cost of ₹16 lakh. The project was designed to provide a safe, refreshing, and healthy environment for residents while promoting sustainable urban spaces.
Key features of the newly dedicated park include:

Dedicated Walking Track: A 900-running-foot track has been constructed to encourage healthy lifestyles among morning and evening walkers.

Aesthetic Landscaping: The green space is planted with ornamental trees and decorative shrubs, and is fully equipped with modern park lighting.

Enhanced Safety: To ensure the protection of the green space and the safety of playing children, the perimeter has been secured with a toe wall and MS flat railing.
Commitment to Community Wellness Speaking at the inauguration, Mayor Saurabh Joshi stated that the Municipal Corporation remains highly committed to enhancing the green cover and recreational infrastructure across Chandigarh, with a special focus on facilities for children and senior citizens. He emphasized that such parks not only improve the overall quality of life but also serve as vital spaces for strengthening community bonding.
Before concluding the event, the Mayor issued a strong appeal to the residents of Sector 40-A, urging them to actively participate in maintaining the park’s cleanliness and overall upkeep to ensure it remains a vibrant, welcoming space for the entire neighbourhood.
