CHANDIGARH: The free summer handball camp organized by the Chandigarh Handball Association (CHA) concluded successfully today at DAV College, Sector 10. The intensive training camp, which aimed to discover and nurture grassroots talent in the region, saw enthusiastic participation from nearly 80 young student-athletes.
The concluding ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Shri Neeraj Sarna, DSP, Chandigarh Police. The event held special nostalgic significance as Mr. Sarna is a former student of CHA President, Mr. Ravinder Singh.
Insights and Motivation from Guests
Addressing the young athletes, Mr. Sarna delivered a highly motivating speech, emphasizing the lifelong benefits of athletic participation. He encouraged the students to make sports an integral part of their fitness routines, noting that a background in sports can propel youth to great heights in any career. Citing his own journey, the DSP shared that almost all the players from his sporting batch are now well-established in highly successful positions across various sectors. He urged the campers to work relentlessly and with full dedication in whatever field they choose to pursue.
The event also welcomed the Guest of Honour, KS Bharti, former Joint Director of Sports, Chandigarh, who originally joined the Sports Department in 1979 through the UPSC as a basketball coach. He inspired the children by highlighting the importance of character alongside athletic skill. He emphasized the timeless values of discipline and gratitude, strongly advising the young players to always respect their elders, school teachers, coaches, and all their mentors.
Boosting Morale and Future Vision
To celebrate the athletes’ hard work over the duration of the camp, the Chandigarh Handball Association provided refreshments to all the children. Additionally, the Apoorva Pandey Foundation generously distributed T-shirts to all the participants, further boosting the morale of the young players.
The summer camp, spearheaded by CHA President Mr. Ravinder Singh and General Secretary Mr. Narinder Singh, utilized the city’s only synthetic handball court at DAV College to train youth aged between 10 and 20 years. By keeping the initiative completely free of cost, the CHA successfully reached out to children from nearby areas—including Khudda Lahora, Naya Gaon, Kaimbwala, Kansal, and surrounding localities—proving once again that sports can be a powerful equalizer and a stepping stone to a bright future.
Following this year’s massive success and an increase to nearly 80 participants, the Chandigarh Handball Association remains committed to its ambitious goal of doubling enrollment and expanding its grassroots development initiatives in the coming years.
