Anjaneya Tewari, CHANDIGARH: In a vibrant celebration of fitness, environmental sustainability, and women’s empowerment, the Chandigarh Amateur Cycling Association (CACA) successfully organized a massive cycling festival on Sunday morning. Hosted at Panjab University, the event combined the global celebration of World Cycling Day 2026 with the highly competitive ASMITA Women’s Cycling League, drawing an overwhelming response from the region’s cycling community.
The festival brought together professional riders, amateur enthusiasts, students, fitness lovers, and families. A remarkable 318 cyclists participated in the non-competitive World Cycling Day ride, while 137 women cyclists competed across various age brackets in the ASMITA League, highlighting the expanding footprint of women’s participation in local sports.
Celebrating Cycling as a Way of Life
Gracing the opening and closing ceremonies, Dr. Rakesh Malik, Director of Sports at Panjab University, felicitated the winners and participants. Other prominent dignitaries in attendance included Dr. Rupinder Kaur (Chief Medical Officer, PU), Mr. Vikram (Chief Security Officer), and Dr. Parveen Goyal (NSS Programme Officer).
“World Cycling Day is not merely a celebration of a sport; it is a movement towards healthier lifestyles, cleaner cities, and a fitter nation,” stated Prof. Gurmeet Singh, General Secretary of CACA. “Through the ASMITA Women’s Cycling League, we are proud to provide a competitive platform that encourages girls and women to pursue sporting excellence and lead active, confident lives.”
