CHANDIGARH: Four suspended contractual employees of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) have been officially reinstated following sustained intervention by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chandigarh. However, the political intervention has drawn mixed reactions within the institute’s workforce. While union leaders celebrated the reinstatement, another contractual employee at PGI voiced dissent, stating that it is “very surprising BJP is supporting those employees who are not performing their duty properly.”
Unions Express Gratitude at ‘Kamalam’
Despite the internal criticism regarding the employees’ performance, the reinstatement was celebrated as a major victory by several labor groups. Members of the PGI Contract Workers Union, Security Guard Contract Workers Union, and Electrical Contract Workers Union organized a delegation led by Ashwini Kumar Munjal.
The delegation visited the BJP Chandigarh State Office, Kamalam, to formally express their gratitude. The union members warmly felicitated BJP Chandigarh State President Jitender Pal Malhotra, presenting him with a flower garland and a bouquet.
Union representatives stated that the suspension had pushed the families of the four employees into severe financial and emotional hardship. They praised Malhotra for taking up the matter with the utmost seriousness, consistently pursuing it with PGI authorities, and making sincere efforts to secure their jobs.
“This reinstatement has restored hope and confidence among contractual workers and demonstrates that genuine public representatives stand firmly with employees during difficult times,” the union representatives said, describing the outcome as a victory of justice and humanitarian values.
BJP Reiterates Commitment to Workers
Addressing the delegation, Jitender Pal Malhotra defended the party’s intervention, stating that the Bharatiya Janata Party has always remained committed to protecting the rights, livelihood, and dignity of workers and employees.
He emphasized that the party would continue to stand with every section of society to ensure that no employee suffers injustice or unfair financial hardship during administrative disputes. The union members concluded the meeting by expressing confidence that the BJP leadership would continue to safeguard the interests of PGI’s contractual workforce in the future.
