JAMMU — Outrage spilled onto the streets today as the J&KUT chapter of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), led by Convenor Ritika Trehan, staged a powerful demonstration condemning the heinous rape of a minor girl. The protesters demanded the strictest punishment, specifically the death sentence, for the accused, calling for a fast-tracked judicial process to ensure exemplary justice.
“We Will Not Remain Silent” Addressing the gathering, Trehan described the incident as a “blot on society” that reflects serious lapses in collective responsibility. She emphasized that the safety and dignity of the girl child are non-negotiable.
“Our daughters deserve safety, dignity, and respect. We will not remain silent spectators when such atrocities take place,” Trehan asserted to the crowd.
The protest witnessed active participation from key BBBP figures including Co-Convenor Indu, Vice President Monika Khosla, Convenor Praveen Kumari, and Co-Convenor Vijay Devi, alongside Neeru Anand, Meena Kumari, Kusum Gupta, Tripta Raina, Anjali Gupta, Megha Raina, Leela Chattri, and Arti Karle. The group raised slogans demanding stronger laws and their effective implementation.
Solidarity and Police Action Following the demonstration, Trehan visited the victim’s residence to offer solidarity and assure the grieving family of the organization’s unwavering support. She urged the administration to provide immediate counseling and protection to the family.
Later, Trehan met with the SHO Bishnah to review the investigation’s progress. She demanded assurances that the case be handled with “utmost seriousness” and called for increased patrolling and preventive measures in the area to restore public faith in the justice system.
