Hisar : Prof. Narsi Ram Bishnoi, Vice-Chancellor of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUST), Hisar, emphasized the crucial role of intellectual property protection in today’s rapidly evolving world of research and technology. The event was held at the Chaudhary Ranbir Singh Auditorium of the University.

He expressed pride in GJUST’s contribution to patent filings, stating that university researchers have published 82 patents in the past five years. In 2024 alone, 15 patents were filed, and six were granted. Encouraging faculty members and scholars, he reiterated the University’s commitment to high-quality research and international-standard research facilities.

Expert Insights on Patent Filing

The workshop featured Dr. Rahul Taneja, Scientist at the Haryana State Council for Science and Technology, Panchkula, as the keynote speaker. Dr. Taneja also elaborated on:

  • Legal aspects of patents and their usage
  • Which technologies qualify for patents and which do not
  • National and international patent filing procedures
  • Various modes of filing patents, including hand delivery, post, or online submission

Call for Indigenous Technology Development

Prof. Neeraj Dilbaghi, Dean of Research & Development, emphasized the importance of developing indigenous technologies, stating that many developed nations generate millions of dollars by commercializing their innovations. He highlighted how National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 encourages the development and commercialization of new technologies.

Prof. Ashwani Kumar, Director of the Patent Cell, stressed in his welcome address that inventing, patenting, and commercializing technologies are key to contributing towards national development.

The event was attended by Prof. Meenakshi Bhatia, Deputy Director of the Patent Cell, and workshop coordinators. Prof. Sumitra Singh, Dean of Faculty of Medical Sciences, and Prof. Sunil Sharma, Chairperson of Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, were also present.
