Mohali, February 17, 2025 – A crucial meeting was held today at IISER, Mohali, between Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) President Amarjit Singh Naura and Secretary Mritunjay Kumar with the Hon’ble Chancellor, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar ji. The meeting took place in the presence of Vice Chancellor Professor Renu Vig and focused on significant matters concerning Panjab University faculty.

During the meeting, the PUTA President expressed gratitude to the Hon’ble Chancellor for his unwavering support in resolving the issue of grant enhancement following the implementation of revised UGC pay scales effective from January 1, 2016. Owing to his active intervention, the requisite funds are expected to be released by the University Grants Commission (UGC) soon, facilitating the timely disbursement of arrears to the faculty.

Another key agenda item was the long-pending demand for enhancing the superannuation age of Panjab University teachers to 65 years. The PUTA President requested the Hon’ble Chancellor’s support in addressing this concern. Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar ji assured his full backing and emphasized that the matter would be treated as a top priority.

PUTA extended heartfelt appreciation to the Hon’ble Chancellor for granting them a personal hearing despite his demanding schedule. A formal representation was also submitted, outlining the key concerns and requests of the university’s teaching community.

Additionally, PUTA acknowledged the ongoing efforts and support of Vice Chancellor Professor Renu Vig, whose leadership played a pivotal role in facilitating the meeting. Her commitment to advocating for the faculty’s interests was instrumental in bringing these pressing issues to the forefront.

This meeting marks a significant step in addressing the concerns of the teaching fraternity at Panjab University, with renewed hope for swift resolutions to longstanding challenges.
