Chandigarh, July 5, 2025: In a bold display of student activism, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Panjab University Unit, today held a strong protest outside the Vice Chancellor’s office, condemning the university’s controversial affidavit policy. The affidavit, which students are being compelled to sign, has been criticized for suppressing free speech, democratic participation, and the right to dissent — all under the pretense of enforcing discipline.
ABVP leaders called the administration’s move a direct attack on student rights and university democracy. “This affidavit is a gag order in disguise,” stated ABVP representatives, “It criminalizes peaceful protests and targets student voices that dare to question.”
ABVP Submits “Student Rights Affidavit” to Vice Chancellor
In a counter move, ABVP submitted its own “Student Rights Affidavit” to the Vice Chancellor, demanding that the administration first pledge to protect student welfare and constitutional values on campus. The alternative affidavit lays out five core, non-negotiable demands:
- No student should suffer harm or injury on campus.
- Hostel accommodation must be provided to all admitted students.
- Access to clean, nutritious, and hygienic food in all university dining areas.
- Fair and transparent evaluation, with timely declaration of results.
- All departments must have adequate teaching faculty — no vacancies tolerated.
ABVP has firmly stated that no student should be made to sign the university’s affidavit unless the administration first signs the “Student Rights Affidavit.” “Trust must be built from the top,” ABVP said, emphasizing that accountability starts with those in power.
Warning of Escalation if Demands Are Ignored
The student organization has warned of intensified protests and university-wide mobilization if the administration fails to respond promptly. “We are ready to escalate our agitation if student rights continue to be sidelined,” ABVP declared.
