Mohali, January 12 : CGC University, Mohali, celebrated ‘Dheeyan Di Lohri’ with great enthusiasm and a strong social message, dedicating the occasion to honouring daughters and promoting equality, respect and social responsibility. The event beautifully blended Punjabi cultural traditions with progressive values, making it a memorable day for students, faculty and staff.
The celebration was graced by Dr. Jagvinder Singh Virk and Dr. Rattandeep Kaur Virk from Australia, who attended as the Chief Guests. Their presence added a global perspective to the event and reinforced the universal message of empowerment of girls. Students enthralled the audience with vibrant folk dances, songs and cultural performances, showcasing the rich heritage of Punjab.
Adding a humanitarian dimension to the celebrations, a donation drive was organised in association with The Great Navbharat Mission Foundation, through which financial assistance was extended to families from adopted villages celebrating the first Lohri of their newborn daughters. The initiative highlighted the university’s commitment to social upliftment and community welfare.
On the occasion, CGC University also conferred the ‘Long Association Award’ on dedicated faculty and staff members in recognition of their years of unwavering service and contribution to the institution.
Addressing the gathering, Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, Founder Chancellor and Father of Education, said that Dheeyan Di Lohri is not just a festival, but a reminder of our collective responsibility to nurture, respect and empower our daughters. Managing Director Arsh Dhaliwal added that such celebrations at CGC aim to bring positive and lasting change in society by spreading awareness and encouraging inclusive values.
The event concluded with a traditional Lohri bonfire, symbolising togetherness, warmth and hope, leaving participants inspired by the powerful message of equality and empowerment.
