The 71st Annual Sports Festival of Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11 commenced with great enthusiasm and grandeur on 25th February 2026. The two-day sporting extravaganza witnessed vibrant participation from students across various streams, setting an energetic tone for the academic session.
The festival began with an impressive opening ceremony featuring the ceremonial lighting of the torch and the solemn recitation of the Sports Day Oath, reaffirming the spirit of fair play, discipline, and sportsmanship among participants.
The event was formally inaugurated by Ms. Prerna Puri, IAS, Secretary Education, Chandigarh Administration. In her address, she emphasized that spirited effort, dedication, and unwavering focus are the true pathways to success. Encouraging the students to excel in all spheres of life, she urged them to strive for excellence and “be a topper in the chosen field,” inspiring young athletes to pursue both sporting and academic distinction.
Ms. Radhika Singh, Director Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour and motivated the students with her encouraging presence.
Principal Dr. Deepshikha lauded the Department of Physical Education for meticulously organizing the grand event and ensuring enthusiastic participation from students across all streams. She highlighted that such events foster teamwork, resilience, leadership qualities, and holistic development among students.
The competitions on the opening day were marked by high energy, determination, and remarkable performances.
In the General Stream (Boys), Shubham Bishnoi (BPEd 2) clinched first position in both the 800m Final (2:16:43) and the 10,000m Final (40:30:56), showcasing exceptional endurance. In Shot Put, Chhatarpal (BPEd 4) secured first place with a throw of 8.59m, while Karamveer (BPEd 1) dominated the Hammer Throw with an impressive 33.50m.
In the General Stream (Girls), Muskan Gupta (BPEd 3) delivered an outstanding performance by winning gold in both the 800m Final (3:00:49) and the 10,000m Final (52:42:08). Geetika (BPEd 2) secured first position in Shot Put with 7.34m, and Rekha (BPEd 2) emerged victorious in Hammer Throw with a throw of 16.25m.
In the Commerce Stream (Girls), Anjali (BCom 3) displayed remarkable athleticism by winning gold in both the 100m Final (17:26 seconds) and Long Jump (2.83m). Jiya Aggarwal (BCom 2) claimed first place in Shot Put with a throw of 5.42m.
In the Science Stream (Boys), Sourav Singh (BSc 3) secured first position in Shot Put with a throw of 8.05m.
The Professional Studies/IT Stream (Boys) witnessed a thrilling 100m Final, where Atin Prasher (BCA 2) finished first with a timing of 13:56 seconds. In Long Jump, Vinod Kumar Mandal (BBA 1) claimed the top position with a leap of 4.75m. In the Professional Studies/IT Stream (Girls), Harsimrat Kaur (BCA 1) secured first place in Long Jump with a jump of 2.95m.
The day concluded on a high note, reflecting the vibrant sporting culture of the institution. The festival continues on 26th February 2026 with several more track and field events lined up, promising further excitement and competitive spirit.
