Anjaneya Tewari, New Delhi : The Government of India is actively implementing the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) with the primary goal of establishing the country as a global hub for the production, usage, and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives.
As part of this initiative, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has made significant progress in driving green hydrogen adoption within the petroleum and refining sector under the SIGHT (Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition) Mode-2B scheme. A total Green Hydrogen production capacity of 30 Kilo Tonnes Per Annum (KTPA) has been awarded to major refineries.
Refinery-Wise Capacity Allocation
The awarded production capacities are distributed across key strategic refinery locations in the country as follows:

Implementation Model and Clean Energy Impact
These green hydrogen projects are being implemented through Build-Own-Operate (BOO) arrangements by private developers, who will provide project-specific investments.
Promoting domestic production and utilization of green hydrogen in refineries is expected to reduce India’s long-standing reliance on imported fossil fuels, bolster national energy security, and accelerate the country’s broader clean energy transition and net-zero objectives.
