Chandigarh: The Panjab University Inter-College Handball Tournament concluded on a high note at the Panjab University campus grounds, with DAV College, Sector-10, Chandigarh delivering a stellar performance to win the Gold Medal and secure the first position. The tournament was successfully held from February 9 to February 12.
Dominant Performance in the Final In the final match, DAV College displayed superior teamwork and strategy, defeating SD College, Sector 32, with a convincing score of 26–16. While SD College secured the second position, the Panjab University Campus team finished third in the tournament.
Top Scorers and Star Players The final match saw outstanding contributions from DAV College’s attackers. Priya led the charge with 7 goals, followed by Janvi Sharma (6 goals), Jassica Sharma (5 goals), Kashvi Bharadwaj (3 goals), Kritika (3 goals), and Rohini (2 goals).
For SD College, Aashna Mehra was the top scorer with 5 goals, followed by Sabita and Komal with 3 goals each. Suhani Negi and Tannu scored 2 goals each, while Sanowar contributed 1 goal. Notably, Aashna Mehra and Suhani Negi are trainees of Coach Manavpreet Singh Bawa.
Dignitaries and Encouragement Manavpreet Singh Bawa, Handball Coach, Sports Department, Chandigarh Administration, congratulated the players, stating that the victory reflected their dedication and fighting spirit. Highlighting Handball as an Olympic sport and one of the world’s fastest team games, he encouraged the youth to take it up for fitness, discipline, and international exposure.
Sh. Ravinder Singh, President of the Chandigarh Handball Association and Retired District Sports Officer, along with Secretary Narinder Singh, congratulated the teams. Sh. Ravinder Singh emphasized that handball requires speed, strength, and mental toughness, urging players to aim for national and international platforms through consistent training.
Prize Distribution and Legacy The prizes were distributed by Dr. Rakesh Malik (Director Sports, PU), Dr. Neeru Malik (Principal, Dev Samaj College), and Dr. Gurmeet (Professor, Physical Education, PU).
Dr. Amanendra Mann (HOD Physical Education, DAV College) and Dr. Yogesh (Game Incharge) lauded the team’s hard work. They noted that this victory was particularly special as DAV College reclaimed the championship title after three years, having finished as runners-up in previous editions.
