Greater Noida: Galgotias University has landed in controversy after a video of a robotic dog demonstration on its campus went viral on social media, triggering mixed reactions from students, parents and the academic community.
The demonstration, reportedly organised as part of a technology showcase, featured a robotic dog performing programmed movements and tasks. While the university described it as an effort to expose students to emerging technologies like robotics and artificial intelligence, many students questioned the purpose, cost and priorities behind such displays.
Critics on social media and within student circles argued that instead of focusing on “showcase events,” the university should invest more in core academic infrastructure, research facilities and practical industry-oriented training. Some students also alleged that the event was more about publicity than meaningful academic learning.
Supporters of the initiative, however, said that such demonstrations help generate interest in robotics, automation and AI, and can inspire students to explore advanced fields of engineering and technology.
The university administration has clarified that the robotic dog was part of a technology awareness and innovation exercise and not a replacement for academic priorities. Officials stated that Galgotias University remains committed to improving educational quality while also exposing students to future technologies.
The incident has reignited a broader debate on the role of “edutainment” versus core academics in private universities, with many calling for a balanced approach between innovation showcases and strengthening fundamental teaching and research.
