AMRITSAR: Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) continues to solidify its reputation as a powerhouse in Indian sports. Celebrating a streak of remarkable international achievements, Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh hosted a special High Tea today at his office to honour the university’s elite, medal-winning shooters.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice-Chancellor congratulated the athletes on their discipline, dedication, and stellar performances at highly competitive global events, including the Asian Shooting Championships and ISSF World Cups.
A Robust Sporting Ecosystem
Prof. Karamjeet Singh emphasized that GNDU’s sustained success on the global stage is the direct result of a healthy sporting ecosystem. This foundation is built upon world-class infrastructure, scientific training facilities, elite coaching, and comprehensive institutional support.
He reiterated the university’s commitment to providing every possible opportunity for young sportspersons to compete confidently and excel globally.
“Perseverance, focus, and discipline remain the defining qualities of successful athletes. We are committed to ensuring our youth have the backing they need to make their mark on prestigious international platforms,” the Vice-Chancellor stated.
Eyes on the 2026 Asian Games
A major highlight of the ceremony was the special recognition of three GNDU shooters who have officially been selected to represent India at the upcoming Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Japan in October 2026.
Describing their selection as a moment of monumental pride for the institution, Prof. Singh expressed deep confidence that they would deliver commendable performances and bring glory to the nation.

Ashi Chouksey & Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar: Clinched gold medals at the 16th Asian Shooting Championship in Kazakhstan and secured their spots for the 2026 Asian Games.

Maneesha Keer: Won a silver medal in the Trap event at the Asian Shooting Championship and booked her ticket to the Asian Games.

Abhinav Shaw: Created a new world record with a gold medal in the 10m rifle event at the ISSF World Cup in Germany, adding to his silver medal from the Asian Games in Jakarta.

Adriyan Karmakar: Set a new world record while securing gold in the 3-position 50m event at the Asian Championship in New Delhi.

Sift Kaur: Bagged gold at the 16th Asian Shooting Championship in Kazakhstan, alongside a gold and silver finish at the Asian Championship in New Delhi.

Harmehar Lally: Claimed a bronze medal in the Skeet event at the ISSF World Cup in Morocco.

Abhay Singh Sekhon: Won bronze at the Asian Shooting Championship in Kazakhstan.

Ramita Jindal: Delivered an outstanding performance by finishing in the top five at the Olympics and represented India at the World Cup.

Harsh Gupta: Claimed two gold medals across the Asian Championship in New Delhi and the 16th Asian Shooting Championship in Kazakhstan.

Prikshit Brar: Represented the university with distinction at the Asian Championship in New Delhi, displaying the deep bench of talent at GNDU.
Expressing their heartfelt gratitude, the international athletes thanked the university administration for its constant encouragement and advanced sports facilities, which they credited as pivotal to their international success.
The event was attended by prominent university officials, including Dean Academic Affairs Dr. H.S. Saini, Registrar Dr. K.S.
