CHANDIGARH: The girls’ hockey team from Government Model High School (GMHS), Sector 42-B, Chandigarh, delivered a stellar performance to bag the gold medal in the Hockey Under-17 Girls’ Tournament. The event was organized as part of the broader Inter-School State Sports Tournament 2026-27.
In a thrilling final match, GMHS Sector 42-B defeated their rivals from Government Model High School, Sector 25, by a convincing margin of 5-2 to emphatically clinch the title.
Star Performers Lead the Way
During the gold medal match, the team’s star players—Preeti Singh, Isha, and Yashika—showcased outstanding gameplay. Yashika, in particular, kept the opposing team under constant pressure with her brilliant, relentless attacks and solid defensive efforts.
Earlier in the tournament, the Sector 42-B squad had seamlessly secured their place in the finals by dominating Sri Guru Gobind Singh Senior Secondary School, Sector 35-B, in a heavily one-sided encounter.

School Headmistress Ms. Suman and Team In-charge Mr. Dushyant Kumar (DPE) warmly congratulated all the student athletes on this historic and well-deserved achievement.

Mr. Dushyant Kumar further emphasized the critical importance of sports and continuous, disciplined practice in student life. Expressing his gratitude to the Chandigarh Administration, he noted that the recent increase in the sports scholarship scheme has significantly boosted students’ interest and participation in competitive sports. He also thanked the organizing hockey officials for the successful and smooth conduct of the tournament.
