Mullanpur Garibdas, September 4: A “Janata Darbar” organized under the leadership of senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and Zila Parishad member Chaudhary Shyam Lal Majrian to highlight the issues faced by residents of the Kharar constituency was disrupted due to heavy rainfall. The downpour caused flooding in local rivers and drains, leaving even Mohali and Chandigarh police struggling to manage the situation.
Briefing the media, Chaudhary said that since early morning, Akali workers had been trying to reach Mullanpur Chowk but the rising waters blocked their way. Despite these challenges, many workers boosted morale by sharing videos from waterlogged areas.
Meanwhile, Chaudhary alleged that Chandigarh and Mohali police attempted to sabotage the program by deploying around three dozen vehicles, including riot-control vans and hundreds of police personnel. He accused Mohali police of preventing arrangements for tents, chairs, and even the langar (community kitchen). Furthermore, he claimed police stopped vehicles of residents and Akali workers, confiscated their keys, harassed them unnecessarily, and even issued challans (fines) — calling it a blatant violation of constitutional rights.
After the rain stopped, hundreds of locals and Nihang groups gathered at his office, where Chaudhary criticized local MLA Anmol Gagan Maan, alleging that she had “abandoned her voters,” sparking anger and resentment among residents.
Chaudhary later met thousands of workers and residents at various locations to thank them for their support and assured that a new date for the program would soon be announced after consultation with the people of the constituency.
