VICTORIA (SEYCHELLES): Reaffirming India’s commitment to strengthening regional maritime security and development partnerships, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday handed over the ‘Made in India’ Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) PS LESPWAR to Seychelles.
The strategic asset, along with several other utility and emergency vehicles, was presented to Seychelles President Patrick Herminie during a special ceremony at the Seychelles Coast Guard Base in Victoria on the first day of the Prime Minister’s State Visit.
Bolstering Defence and Developmental Infrastructure
The comprehensive capability-building package handed over by India includes:

Fast Patrol Vessel (PS LESPWAR): Built by Goa Shipyard Limited, the vessel is designed to significantly enhance Seychelles’ maritime surveillance and strengthen policing within its vast Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

6 Ambulances & 10 Utility Vehicles: To support the country’s domestic healthcare and administrative requirements.

5 Laser Radial Boats: To further assist in coastal and inland water operations.
Taking to the social media platform X to share details of the ceremony, Prime Minister Modi highlighted that the transfer of the PS LESPWAR marks another critical milestone in the growing India-Seychelles defense relationship.
“India remains proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Seychelles as a trusted partner, working together to deepen our enduring friendship and strengthen our collective maritime capabilities,” the Prime Minister stated.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted that this assistance directly reflects India’s Vision MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions), showcasing the expanding partnership dedicated to promoting peace, security, and stability in the Indian Ocean Region.
A Golden Jubilee Celebration
Prime Minister Modi arrived in Seychelles earlier on Saturday to attend the island nation’s Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour.
Upon arrival, PM Modi and President Herminie inspected a ceremonial Guard of Honour. The welcome was further enriched by vibrant cultural displays, featuring the traditional Seychellois Moutya dance alongside a vibrant folk performance from Kutch, Gujarat, presented by members of the local Indian diaspora.
This marks Prime Minister Modi’s second State Visit to Seychelles, reciprocating President Patrick Herminie’s State Visit to India earlier this year. Ahead of the high-level bilateral engagements, the Office of the President of Seychelles lauded India as one of its closest and most valued development partners. The continuous collaboration in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and maritime security continues to reflect the enduring diplomatic relationship maintained since Seychelles gained independence in 1976.
