NEW DELHI: Following the Centre’s sudden decision to cancel the NEET-UG 2026 examination amidst paper leak allegations, frustration, anger, and despair are mounting among medical aspirants across the country. For many of the 22.79 lakh students who appeared for the test, the announcement of a re-test feels less like justice and more like a punishment for systemic failures.

Speaking out about the emotional and mental toll of the cancellation, Jiya, a medical aspirant from Delhi, echoed the collective outrage of her peers. She strongly criticized the National Testing Agency (NTA), demanding a complete overhaul of how such critical exams are managed.

“They should change the agency every year. Students are facing this kind of humiliation just because of an incompetent agency,” she stated.

Highlighting the immense pressure and hard work required to prepare for the country’s most competitive undergraduate medical entrance exam, Jiya added, “We studied day and night for this test. Now, again, we have to do all the exercise again.”

Her sentiments reflect a broader wave of anxiety among students and parents who are now grappling with the uncertainty of new exam dates and the grueling prospect of restarting their intensive preparation cycles. While the government has promised a CBI probe and assured transparency moving forward, for many students on the ground, the immediate reality is one of exhaustion and broken trust.
