NEW DELHI: In a major push toward digital governance and paperless convenience, 68 electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs) and state power departments across India have successfully onboarded onto DigiLocker, the government’s flagship digital document wallet under the Digital India programme.
According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), this major integration allows electricity consumers across 35 States and Union Territories to securely access their authentic digital electricity bills directly within the DigiLocker application, bringing unprecedented accessibility and efficiency to utility document management.
Elite Public and Private Utilities Onboarded
The participating entities span a wide array of state-owned power distribution companies, municipal electricity departments, and prominent private distribution utilities that collectively serve millions of consumers nationwide.
Some of the major public and private utilities now live on the platform include:
-
North India: Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited, BSES Yamuna Power Limited, and Noida Power Company Limited.
-
Uttar Pradesh: Dakshinachal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, and Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited.
-
South & East India: Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) and Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited.
Eliminating Paperwork and Enhancing Security
By making official electricity bills available directly through the secure ecosystem, the platform completely eliminates the traditional need for consumers to search through emails, maintain physical paper files, or visit local service provider offices to verify credentials.
“The integration ensures that consumers have access to legally valid, issuer-sourced documents from their respective electricity service providers through a secure and trusted platform,” the Ministry stated.
The IT Ministry highlighted that as DigiLocker continues to expand its ecosystem of trusted issuers, citizens will benefit from simplified, single-window access to both government and utility-issued credentials. Simultaneously, utility organisations will benefit from highly streamlined digital service delivery, automated verification pathways, and reduced administrative overhead.
