GHANAUR: Launching an aggressive mass contact campaign ahead of the upcoming political season, Youth Akali Dal President and Ghanaur Halqa Incharge Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer on Saturday commenced his foot march titled ‘Bolega Ghanaur, Badlega Daur’. The padayatra was flagged off from the historic Gurudwara Nimm Sahib, Patshahi Novi, in village Aakar, and is scheduled to run until June 8, covering more than 100 villages across the Ghanaur constituency.
Moving village-to-village on foot to establish a direct connection with the rural populace, Jhinjer addressed corner meetings at multiple locations, actively listening to local grievances and pledging the Shiromani Akali Dal’s (SAD) absolute support. During his initial interactions, Jhinjer raised serious administrative concerns over the sudden stoppage of MGNREGA work in village Aakar. He alleged that the employment guarantee scheme has been completely stalled for the past year, stripping daily wage workers of their primary source of livelihood.
Highlighting the growing public discontent, Jhinjer shared an emotional moment from his march involving a distressed mother who broke down in tears, lamenting that no political representative had ever approached her to hear her problems. “Today, I visited that woman along with my entire cadre, with a heavy heart, and listened to every word of her grievances,” Jhinjer said, asserting that such instances lay bare the ground reality of the current state government’s systemic failure.
He made a direct appeal to the residents of Ghanaur to break their silence and bring forward both personal and public issues so that the Akali Dal could amplify their voices at higher administrative levels. Reminding the public of SAD’s historical pro-farmer policies, Jhinjer pointed out that vital facilities like free electricity and free tubewells were pioneered under Akali governance.
In a sharp political attack on the ruling dispensation, the youth leader claimed it was unprecedented in history that farmers were summoned for official discussions and subsequently arrested by the police under the current Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regime. Slamming the ruling party as a “trolley chor party,” Jhinjer declared that the march aims to reinstate the dignity and status of Ghanaur.
The public outreach program saw heavy participation from top SAD leadership, including SGPC members S. Jasmer Singh Lachhru and S. Surjit Singh Garhi; SAD Core Committee Member S. Gurpreet Singh Raju Khanna; Haryana SAD President S. Harkesh Singh Mohri; and former Patiala Mayor S. Amarinder Singh Bajaj, alongside various district, circle, and youth wing office-bearers.
