NEW DELHI: The nation bowed in reverence on Sunday as President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh led the country in paying heartfelt tributes to the brave soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas.
Observed every year on July 26, the day commemorates India’s decisive victory in the 1999 Kargil War. The Indian Armed Forces successfully evicted intruders from strategic, snow-clad heights in the Kargil sector under the monumental “Operation Vijay,” reaffirming the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
‘Unwavering Resolve and Patriotism’
Taking to the social media platform X, President Droupadi Murmu paid her respects to the martyrs who laid down their lives in the defence of the motherland. She emphasized that the unparalleled valour, unwavering resolve, and patriotism of the soldiers continue to exemplify the glorious traditions of the Indian Armed Forces.
Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan also offered his salute, noting that the historic 1999 victory stands as a powerful testament to India’s military strength, national unity, and its uncompromising resolve to defend every inch of its territory. He added that the nation will remain forever grateful to the brave soldiers and their resilient families.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed the nation’s immense gratitude toward the heroes of Kargil, highlighting their ability to face the most formidable battlefield conditions with unmatched courage.

Reflecting on the grueling tactical challenges of the 1999 conflict, Union Home Minister Amit Shah noted the harsh realities of the snow-clad Himalayan peaks. He praised the Indian Army for their indomitable courage, recalling how the soldiers successfully forced the enemy to retreat despite the adversary holding a distinct strategic advantage from higher elevations.
Adding to the tributes, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh remembered the martyrs who displayed exceptional courage on the treacherous heights of Kargil. He stated that the supreme sacrifice and selfless service of the Armed Forces will forever serve as a guiding light, inspiring future generations with a profound sense of duty and patriotism to the nation.
