CHANDIGARH: The Department of Public Administration at Mehr Chand Mahajan (MCM) DAV College for Women, through its student club COMPASS (Club of MCM DAV Public Administration Students) and in collaboration with the college’s Sustainable Practices Committee, successfully organized an insightful session titled “Walk the Talk on Sustainability.”
The session sought to transition the ongoing discourse on sustainability away from abstract policy frameworks and global climate goals, bringing it closer to students’ everyday lives through practical and grassroots action.
Conscious Choices for a Greener Future
Dr. Karan Godara, an independent researcher, published author, and active sustainability practitioner, addressed the students, highlighting how individuals and educational institutions can contribute to meaningful environmental change.
Drawing on the practical example of his own venture, “Earthwise Essentials,” Dr. Godara emphasized the critical importance of consciously choosing everyday household essentials—ranging from daily toiletries to eco-friendly packaging materials—with a strict focus on reducing environmental impact.
“Simple choices, such as opting for cotton clothing and adopting responsible consumption habits, can collectively make a significant difference,” Dr. Godara underlined during his interaction.
Campus Action and Leadership Support
Reinforcing the message that responsible disposal and small individual actions are the bedrock of a sustainable lifestyle, COMPASS organized a campus-wide collection drive prior to the session. Students actively gathered paper, cartons, and glass bottles for proper recycling.
The enlightening session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment, where students eagerly engaged with Dr. Godara on practical methods of incorporating sustainable habits into their busy daily routines.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma commended the proactive approach of the students and faculty. She congratulated the Department of Public Administration and the COMPASS club members for initiating a meaningful, action-oriented discussion on such a pertinent contemporary issue, and highly appreciated their ongoing efforts toward promoting sustainable practices across the college campus.
