Chandigarh : A meeting of the Airport Advisory Committee of Chandigarh International Airport was held under the chairmanship of Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari and co-chairmanship of Sri Anandpur Sahib MP Manvinder Singh Kang.
The meeting was attended by CEO Ajay Verma, committee members HS Lucky, Chandermukhi Sharma, Ravinder Pal Pali, Pawan Dewan, Gurmail Singh Pahalwan, and senior officials including Bhuvnish Kumar (CASO), Manjit Ghumman, Karan Gilhotra, DC Chandigarh Nishant Yadav, SSP Chandigarh Kanwardeep Kaur, SP Ramandeep Singh, among others.
The committee resolved to communicate to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Airport Authority of India the demand to designate Chandigarh International Airport as a Point of Call (POC). Mr. Tewari further emphasized that the old terminal should be made operational at the earliest to facilitate easy access for passengers from Chandigarh and Panchkula.
He also noted that this matter had earlier been raised by the Chief Secretary of Chandigarh during a Civil Aviation Ministry conference held in May–June 2025.
Other key issues discussed included cleanliness around the airport, bird menace mitigation, and safety concerns caused by unattended garbage and encroachments near the airport perimeter.
To address these, Mr. Tewari and Mr. Kang directed that a joint meeting be convened involving the DC, SSP, and Municipal Commissioner of Chandigarh and Mohali, along with representatives of the Indian Air Force and Chandigarh International Airport Limited.
Additionally, the committee discussed enhancing flight connectivity by increasing the frequency of flights from Chandigarh to different destinations.
