Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Chartered Accountants Taxation Association (CCATAX) has urged the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to extend the due dates for filing Income Tax Returns (ITRs) and Tax Audit Reports for the Assessment Year 2025–26, citing widespread compliance difficulties faced by taxpayers and professionals.
In its representation, CCATAX pointed out that only 3.35 crore returns had been filed as of August 20, 2025, compared to 7.41 crore filed by July 31 last year—a shortfall of nearly 55% with barely three weeks remaining until the September 15 deadline.
The Association attributed the delays to several factors, including the late release of ITR and audit utilities, persistent glitches on the income tax portal, new reporting formats introduced by ICAI, and severe monsoon disruptions across multiple states.
CCATAX has requested the following extensions:
- Non-Audit Cases: till October 31, 2025
- Tax Audit Reports: till November 30, 2025
- Audit Cases: till December 31, 2025
- Revised & Belated Returns: till March 31, 2026
Association President CA/CMA Dr. Balwinder Singh and Secretary CA Manoj Kohli stated that granting timely relief would not only ease the burden on taxpayers, especially those affected by floods, but also ensure accurate compliance and improved quality of tax filings.
