New Delhi: Dr. Sandeep Bansal has officially assumed charge as the President of the Indian Association of Surgeons for Sleep Apnoea (IASSA), outlining an ambitious roadmap to tackle Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA), which he described as a “silent epidemic” due to its hidden yet serious impact on the heart and brain.
Emphasising the need for a collaborative approach, Dr. Bansal said the future of OSA treatment lies in interdisciplinary care. Instead of patients consulting a single specialist, he envisions a “unified front” where ENT surgeons, pulmonologists and neurologists work together to ensure comprehensive diagnosis and treatment.
Under his leadership, the IASSA plans to standardise surgical procedures for sleep apnoea across the country, introduce advanced training programmes for the next generation of surgeons, and foster international academic partnerships to bring global best practices to India.
Dr. Bansal said these initiatives would not only improve patient outcomes but also strengthen India’s position in the field of sleep medicine and surgery, ensuring more effective and evidence-based care for those suffering from OSA.
