NEW DELHI: The Department of Pharmaceuticals, under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, is set to host the 9th edition of India Medical Device 2026 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on August 7 and 8. The major event aims to bring together policymakers, industry leaders, healthcare professionals, researchers, start-ups, and investors to chart the future of India’s rapidly growing medical devices sector.

Organized in close collaboration with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the flagship conference is themed “Towards Viksit Bharat: Advancing India as a Global Hub for Quality Medical Devices”. The primary focus will be on strengthening India’s position as a global manufacturing and innovation hub while promoting extensive self-reliance in the MedTech sector.

Key Inaugurations and Addresses

Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilisers, Anupriya Patel, will officially inaugurate the conference on August 7. On the second day, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Jagat Prakash Nadda will deliver the keynote address focused on the theme “Atmanirbhar MedTech: Accelerating India’s Journey towards Viksit Bharat”.

The conference will witness participation from several high-ranking government officials, including:

  • Manoj Joshi, Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals

  • Punya Salila Srivastava, Health Secretary

  • Dr. Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi, Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI)

  • Dr. M. Srinivas, Member (Health), NITI Aayog

CEOs of leading medical device companies, industry experts, healthcare institutions, academia, and start-ups will also be in attendance.

A Roadmap for the Future

Ahead of the highly anticipated event, Pharmaceuticals Secretary Manoj Joshi emphasized that the conference would provide a premier platform to showcase India’s expanding MedTech capabilities, strengthen global partnerships, promote innovation, and develop a comprehensive roadmap for positioning India as a trusted global hub for quality medical devices.

Highlighting the critical importance of industry-government collaboration, FICCI Medical Devices Committee Chair and Abbott Healthcare India & South Asia Managing Director Tushar Sharma stated that the conference would facilitate meaningful dialogue and strategic partnerships to accelerate the growth of India’s medical devices ecosystem.

Thematic Discussions and Industry Participation

Over the course of two days, the conference will feature plenary sessions, thematic discussions, and deep industry interactions. Key areas of discussion will cover:

  • Localization of medical device component manufacturing and strengthening domestic production.

  • Technology leadership in high-impact medical devices and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare.

  • Regulatory pathways for clinical evidence generation.

  • Expanding medical device exports and improving service and maintenance ecosystems for medical equipment.

Day two will feature an exclusive CEO roundtable chaired by Union Minister J.P. Nadda, alongside a dedicated session on reimbursement mechanisms for innovative therapies to support India’s goal of Universal Health Coverage.

Leading MedTech giants, including GE HealthCare, Abbott Healthcare, Philips India, Medtronic India, Johnson & Johnson MedTech, and Hindustan Syringes & Medical Devices Ltd., are expected to participate. The event will also showcase emerging technologies and start-up innovations aimed at strengthening India’s globally competitive medical devices ecosystem, directly aligning with the overarching vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.
