CHANDIGARH — The Panjab University (PU) campus remained immersed in competitive fervor over the past three days as “Akhada 6.0,” the annual sports festival organized by the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), successfully concluded today. Held from February 26 to 28, the grand event drew participants from across the country, showcasing remarkable enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and raw athletic talent.
The final day of the festival witnessed spectators on the edge of their seats during the decisive matches of cricket and football. The fast-paced, highly competitive final sets of volleyball also drew large crowds, while the host UILS team presented a formidable claim in the basketball title clash.
Tournament Champions: Badminton and Chess In addition to the major team sports, participants delivered excellent performances in individual and doubles events. The top honors in these categories included:

Badminton (Men’s Singles): Aditya Sharma (CGC Landran) emerged victorious.

Badminton (Men’s Doubles): The duo of A. Sharma and R. Rampal (CGC Landran) secured the first position.

Badminton (Mixed Doubles): K. Khurmi and A. Malik (UILS) registered a brilliant victory on their home turf.

Chess (Girls Category): Kalpana won the championship title with strategic brilliance.

Chess (Boys Category): Divyansh secured the winner’s title with an outstanding performance.
Honoring Athletic Excellence The sports extravaganza culminated in a dignified prize distribution ceremony where the victorious athletes were honored for their outstanding performances.
Prof. (Dr) Yogesh Kumar Rawal, Dean Student Welfare at PU, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, accompanied by the Guest of Honour, Prof (Dr) Naresh Kumar, former Associate Dean Student Welfare. A special honor was also conferred upon Prof. (Dr) Virender Kumar Negi, Director of the Centre for the Study of Social Inclusion, for his invaluable contribution to the event’s overall success.
“A Platform for Discipline and Unity” UILS Director Prof. (Dr) Shruti Bedi was present to congratulate the athletes, while the event was seamlessly conducted under the leadership of faculty coordinator Dr. Sunny Sharma. The administration extended its gratitude to the dedicated organizing committee members—Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, Dr. Vijayalakshmi, Dr. Purushottam, Dr. Deepak Thakur, Sonal Preet Kaur, Dr. Sugandha Pasi, Ms. Meena, Ms. Amandeep, Ms. Garima Nayar, and Mr. Rahul—for their tireless efforts.
