NEW DELHI: Emphasizing the critical need for a holistic approach to medical education and healthcare delivery, Haryana Governor Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh called for India to adopt a “whole-of-nation healthcare system.”
Addressing the 9th edition of the Times Now Doctors’ Day Conclave in New Delhi today, the Governor urged medical professionals, policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders to work collectively. He stressed that their shared goal must be to ensure every citizen has access to healthcare that is affordable, accessible, ethical, and of the highest quality.
Balancing Remarkable Progress with Persistent Challenges
During his address, Prof. Ghosh acknowledged that India has made remarkable progress in medical technology, research, and the expansion of healthcare services. However, he emphasized that significant challenges still require urgent attention.
He pointed to three critical areas of need:

Strengthening rural healthcare infrastructure.

Providing greater support for the mental well-being of doctors.

Creating an ecosystem where every medical professional is respected, protected, and empowered to deliver excellence.
Congratulating the Times Now Group for organizing the conclave, the Governor expressed his confidence that the day’s deliberations would translate into impactful policies and innovative solutions, laying a strong foundation for a healthier and more equitable India for generations to come.
“A Life of Care, A Legacy of Light”
Reflecting on this year’s conclave theme, “A Life of Care, A Legacy of Light,” Prof. Ghosh said it perfectly captures the spirit of selfless service that defines the medical fraternity. Pointing out that more than 13 lakh registered allopathic doctors are currently serving a population of 1.4 billion, he reminded the audience that behind every statistic is a dedicated professional who sacrifices personal comfort to save lives.
The Governor also paid heartfelt tributes to Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, noting that his enduring legacy reminds the world that medicine is not merely a profession, but a noble calling dedicated to humanity.
Preparing for an Evolving Healthcare Landscape
Highlighting India’s shifting demographics, Prof. Ghosh noted that while over 70 percent of the country’s population is currently under the age of 42, rising life expectancy means India is steadily moving towards an aging society.
He cautioned that the country is simultaneously confronting a growing burden of complex diseases and emerging health challenges. This reality makes it imperative to proactively strengthen the healthcare system to effectively meet future demands.
