NEW DELHI — Reaffirming her government’s commitment to women’s education and empowerment, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta performed Kanya Pujan in Pitampura on Thursday and distributed bicycles to approximately 1,000 girl students from nine different schools.
The distribution was carried out under the ambit of the Vidyavahini initiative, a scheme designed to ensure that transportation challenges do not hinder a girl’s educational journey in the national capital.
Empowering the ‘Forms of Durga and Saraswati’ Addressing the media at the event, Chief Minister Gupta emphasized the government’s resolve to remove all logistical obstacles from the paths of young female students.
Under the Vidyavahini initiative, bicycles are provided to girls in Class 9, ensuring they have a reliable mode of transport for their crucial high school years through Classes 10, 11, and 12.
“Every daughter in Delhi should be able to complete her education without any hindrance — finish school, graduate, and become whatever she aspires to be,” the Chief Minister stated. “This is the form of Durga, this is the form of Saraswati. They will bring glory to this city and our country in the years to come.”
A Message of Strength and Divine Blessing Earlier in the day, Gupta took to the social media platform X to share her thoughts on the spiritual significance of Kanya Pujan, a deeply revered Navratri ritual where young girls are worshipped as embodiments of Goddess Durga and feminine power (Shakti).
“Daughters are symbols of good fortune, embodiments of strength, and sacred blessings. On this occasion of Kanya Pujan, worshipping daughters filled my heart with deep emotion,” Gupta wrote. “This is my prayer to the Mother: May her blessings be upon all, may happiness and prosperity reach every home, and may the love of daughters always illuminate our lives.”
The initiative highlights a blend of cultural reverence and practical governance, utilizing the auspicious occasion of Navratri—the nine-night Hindu festival dedicated to Goddess Durga—to launch tangible support for girl-child education.
